Somatic Experience

The body speaks before words do.

The Somatic Experience (SE™) is a body-oriented therapeutic model that seeks to address symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma stored in the body and nervous system. When we become trapped in fight, flight, or freeze patterns, SE helps us release that energy, recover, and develop greater resilience—without having to relive what happened.

More than four decades of research and clinical practice.

Do any of these situations sound familiar to you?

We don't always know how to put into words what we're going through. But our bodies do know—and they express it through signals that we sometimes can't decipher. Here are some of the most common ones:

  • Anxiety, chronic stress, or the feeling of living in a constant state of alert

  • Sleep problems: insomnia, fragmented sleep, or waking up feeling just as exhausted

  • Chronic pain, muscle tension, digestive problems, or fatigue with no clear medical explanation

  • Dissociation: feeling as though you're watching your life from the outside, that you're not fully present, or that your body isn't your own

  • Hypersensitivity, emotional reactivity, or disproportionate reactions that you can't explain

  • Difficulty trusting others, low self-esteem, or a deep sense of helplessness

  • Depression, Overwhelm , or the feeling that something inside you is turned off without knowing why

  • You've been in therapy, and it's helped you understand, but something in your body still feels unresolved

When we experience situations that overwhelm us, the body doesn’t forget. It records them, stores them, and expresses them in ways we sometimes can’t decipher. The good news is that the body also has an innate ability to heal—when given the right conditions.

You don't have to relive the trauma to heal from it. The body just needs to finish what it wasn't able to process at the time.

An approach that starts with the body, not with the story

How is it different?

Traditional Therapies

They usually start by asking you to talk about what happened, what you remember, and what you can recount. This can be helpful, but it can also reawaken what has not yet been processed in the body.

The mind understands, but the body continues to react as if the danger had never passed.

Somatic Experience

We work with bodily sensations: what you feel, where you feel it, and how your body responds. This approach helps you complete the self-protection responses that were left unfinished and release the survival energy that your body still holds onto. You don’t need to talk about what happened—your body already knows.

First, we create a sense of safety in the body. From there, your nervous system can release what it has been holding onto—at its own pace, without causing further trauma.

What is a Somatic Experience session like?

The Somatic Experience can help you with

You don't have to put a name to what you're feeling to start working through it

Anxiety and Chronic Stress

That feeling of always being on edge, with a tightness in your chest or your mind racing for no apparent reason.

Sleep Problems

Insomnia, fragmented sleep, or waking up feeling just as exhausted.

Emotional reactivity

Disproportionate reactions, paralysis, outbursts of anger or crying that you can't explain.

Chronic Pain and Tension

Pain in the neck, back, jaw, or stomach that has no clear medical explanation or does not respond to conventional treatments.

Attachment Styles and Relationship Difficulties

Feeling like you have a hard time trusting, that you cling to or distance yourself from the people you love. Difficulty feeling secure in your relationships, even though you deeply desire that connection.

Unresolved Difficult Experiences

They don't have to be "big" events. Sometimes they're things that were left unresolved, unnamed, or unfinished.

Dissociation and Disconnection

Feeling as if you're watching your life from the outside, as if you're not fully present, or as if your body isn't your own.

Hi, I'm Alicia

My training includes Somatic Experiencing® (SE) and DARe (Dynamic Attachment Re-patterning Experience).

I work on the premise that your body isn't broken—it has an innate ability to heal when given the right conditions. My role is to support you through that process, at your own pace, without forcing anything.

Who is with you?

Somatic Experiencing® and DARe

Scientific Support

The sessions are based on two methodologies supported by scientific evidence, developed over decades of research.

Somatic Experiencing®

A body-based methodology created by Dr. Peter A. Levine, based on the intersection of physiology, psychology, neuroscience, biology, and indigenous healing practices. It helps release stress, shock, and trauma accumulated in the nervous system. When we become trapped in fight, flight, or freeze patterns, SE facilitates release, recovery, and the development of greater resilience. More than four decades of research and clinical practice support its effectiveness.

DARe

Dynamic Attachment Re-patterning experience. An approach that works with attachment patterns to restore inner security and connection with others. It complements SE work from a relational perspective.

In training.

"No matter what attachment issues you encounter along the way, remember: we're taking important steps back toward secure attachment."
